Retin-A... Why NOT to use it.
I've been treating peoples skin issues and waxing for, oh...16+ years & I've noticed that around the beginning of fall Dr.'s suddenly start pushing what I consider to be the dreaded Retin-A (the bane of my existence).
Why? Summer's come to an end & people want to counter whatever sun damage they perceive to have acquired. The skin texture has changed & things have dried up creating congestion and/or a few more wrinkles.
All good reasons but let's take a look at what Fall brings us:
- Colder air= more dryness
- More wind=dryness
- Erratic whether= confused skin
- Shorter days=Less V-D
- School starts and vacation season comes to an end heralding the onset of the holiday season=more work=more stress leading to inflammation which causes pigmentation and/or acne.
Enter, Retin-A/Renova/Differin/Retin-A Micro, etc. it's all the same. If we take a closer look at the ingredients you'll find all sorts of awful stuff in the formula. *Please understand Vit-A as a whole is perfectly fine it's the formula's and the carrier's we have to be careful of.
These formula's include carcinogens, parabins & liquid plastic's, etc... known cancer causers. Please consult the amazing website SkinDeep.com which rates Retin-a with a toxic hazard level score of 7 out of ten.
All Retin-A does is aggravate the skin to a point of peeling in the hope that the skin will essentially be tricked into producing more collagen, etc. for a more youthful you.
Our skin has one receptor out of many that is able to recognize and process the active ingredient f Retin-A called Tretinoin (the Vit-A derivative) However the cream has many more molecules then we have receptors which leads to over stimulation and angry skin and side effects like uncomfortable dryness, redness, swelling and unsightly flaking.
There are a multiple of ways to deal with our skin's issues & preventative measures we can take without stripping our natural skin barrier and compromising it's built in immunity which is integral to our overall health and beauty.
In my humble opinion it does not seem right to add a substance that is toxic and traumatizing to skin that is already in flux, adding fire to fire.
What to do?
- Change your diet to accommodate the season change. Add warm, moist or wet foods.
- Eat for the season!
- Give yourself the gift of down time= takes down inflammation.
- TLC for your skin with a healthy regime. This to will need to change with the seasons.
Now that you know Retin-A is old school you might wonder if there is a better ingredient that will actually make a difference and the answer is Trans Retinaldehyde!
Retinaldehyde is a substance that is already found in our skin which means we have ton's of receptors for it and when used topically as a liposomal active it's better than Retin-A because it can penetrate deeper, creating an equal amount of collagen and elastin without being irritating or damaging. Trans Retinal is antibacterial and 1000 times stronger then Retin-A... simply because it's a precurser to retinol (Retin-A) and already a part of our internal makeup. Hence-NO aggravation or trauma reaction at all.
With that being said I invite you to try our new product line Osmosis. Osmosis is a fabulous line built around this one (of many) magical ingredients. Let us help you build up your skin with a delicate hand creating harmony and immunity within your skin for a glowing happy you!.
